I don’t remember if I have shared this Flashlight story before.
It was many years ago on a dark and cold night at home in the master bedroom. I was lying in bed reading a Guns & Ammo magazine and the Mrs. was on her computer desk across the room. I turned off my nightstand light and placed a 2xAA Streamlight ‘Wow’, which is convertible from hand light to a head light, on my head. It sports an ‘ARC mania’ PR2 LED bulb so the tint is nice and white and the runtime is great. It also gives a more flood, full page soft light. The stock PR2 incan would have too much of a hot spot and using it while reading was not comfortable on the eyes.
While I lie there reading my magazine, I eventually nodded off with the open magazine flat on my chest and a soft glow emitting from my forehead, lighting up the ceiling quite nicely. There was enough light bounce that the Mrs. could navigate the room without having to turn on her nightstand light. She hops into bed and the slight shake wakes me for I was not yet 100% fully asleep. I sit up and look to my left and see spot of light on the wall. I look to my right, same spot. I look up, there it is again. I continue to move my head in all directions and that spot of light followed. According to the Mrs., I was yelling…”STOP THAT! WHO”S DOING THAT! QUIT IT!”. Then it dawns on me that it was the headlight that was still on my head in the ‘on’ position. The wife was quiet the whole time, just looking at me, shaking her head, while saying (without speaking a word)…”What an idiot!... Look at this fool!... I married this?... Sheeeesh have I lowered my standards greatly”.
I cannot tell you how I felt. We’ve been together for over 24 years and that includes many years before marriage and this is the most embarrassing moment of my life with her.
She never laughed or even smiled at that time. It is only now, after she tells this story to others, she includes a little chuckle.
Njoy…
